Honey & Nash

“When I asked Kennan to paint Nash and Honey for my signature drinks at my wedding, I knew it would be amazing and that I had the right girl on the job. But I never imagined it to be as amazing as it actually turned out to be. As soon as I saw it, I cried my eyes out. It was absolutely perfect and so precious. My husband and I put the paintings up at the bar at our wedding and it was the sweetest way to include our fur babies in our special day! Kennan is insanely talented and her work is gorgeous. Forever thankful!!!!! <3”

I love dogs (if that wasn’t obvious enough). I believe this love for dogs is passed down through the Jones women in my family. The men in my family love dogs, too, but… there’s something special about a Jones girl and her fur baby. Stories of my great-grandmother’s dogs still survive today, and my grandmother arguably loves her little fur babies as much as her own grandbabies! My cousins and I are no exception to the lineage. My grandmother gifted my cousin, Hannah, and me each a chihuahua back in 2003 (named Ola and Moose respectively). In doing so, she awakened the Jones-dog-lover gene, and we’ve had fur babies in our lives ever since.

Honey and Nash are the beloved dogs in Hannah and Zach’s new family. You won’t meet a couple that adores their animals more than Hannah and Zach do! So, when Hannah asked me to paint portraits of Honey and Nash for her wedding day’s cocktail menu, I knew I needed to give her something more than just a one-time-use painting. This is when I got the idea for stickers and prints.

I’ve painted pet portraits for signature cocktail menus in the past and always felt bothered that the art was intended for one-time use. Who wants to hang a picture that says “Maggie-Rita” in her home, even if it does have a pretty portrait of Mrs. Golden Retriever Maggie on it?! So, for Hannah and Zach’s wedding, I painted a pet portrait designed for home decor and then had my good friend at Stephanie Quirk Photography capture TIF files of the painting. Unlike taking a high-quality photo with the iPhone or an average camera, a TIF file captures extensive details; every stroke, layer, color, and even the paper’s texture. This file was sent to Hannah and Zach’s wedding sign creator to print onto the signature cocktail sign. In this process, Hannah and Zach not only have a pet portrait designed for their home, but they also have a signature cocktail menu with their dog’s portrait on it. I think this is the best way to go about creating any signage with a pet painted onto it so that the piece can last a lifetime 😊. This painting is an 8”x10” watercolor painting with gouache highlight/texturing on watercolor paper.
